AI chatbot: the disclosure duty since 2 August 2026

A support widget is not “obvious”. Here is the notice to show, when to show it, and how to prove it.

An assistant with a human first name is not obvious to a reasonably informed visitor. Article 50(1) then requires an explicit disclosure.

Example wording: “You are chatting with an automated assistant.” It must appear when the chat opens, not after three messages, and not only in the footer.

Platforms (Crisp, Intercom, Tidio…) may one day include this natively. That does not replace the AI-system register or the proof log in case of an inspection.

General information, not legal advice.
